Testing
At a recent tournament in Texas a local team used the system at a NAFA event during their warm up. The system was previously adjusted to their dogs at their crating area, which allowed them to move the system into place around the NAFA system in about 10 seconds. It fit perfectly and did not affect the NAFA system at all. The Head Judge gave his approval before hand and the tournament director was also notified since this was the first time this system was seen. The system drew a crowd.
This test was performed with "Fast" dogs and people who are considered the best passing callers in the area. A video camera was used to check the system and compare it to the pass callers. During the first test, the first dog triggered one light; then the rest of the dogs did not trigger any lights. Then passing callers called a few of the dogs passes at 1' so everyone was very curious about seeing the run on video. The video showed that the Accupass was right on the money. The first dog was at 2.5' and the rest of the passes were well over 3', however the passes appeared closer to the callers at the time of the pass. After viewing the video, everyone realized that the callers were wrong, and the system was correct.
The moral of this story has two factors:
Even the best teams have a lot of room for improvement in passing.
Even the best passing callers are only human.
It's exciting to think how this system can help Flyball. For the best teams that are close to records with additional passing improvement and calling just might be able to cut that extra time and set a record. Teams at other levels can use the system to greatly improve their passing and hopefully set new team records. The Electronic Judging System made line judging a thing of the past. With Accupass manual pass calling can be a thing of the past.
